Matthew N. Beckmann is a Professor of Political Science at UC Irvine, where he studies Washington politics, particularly those involving the White House. Beckmann’s new book - The President’s Day: Managing Time in the Oval Office - explains and tests the seemingly pedestrian but actually fascinating rudiments of presidents’ daily work: time, people, and process.
Professor Beckmann teaches courses about American politics, including The US Presidency, Postwar Presidents, research seminars about Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Reagan, Clinton, and Bush (43), and a writing seminar entitled “Writing for POTUS.” He has been recognized as Professor of the Year, Mentor of the Year, and won the Instructional Technology Teaching Award. Beckmann was recently selected into UC Irvine’s Faculty Academy for Teaching Excellence.
Beckmann received his B.A. from UCLA and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.
